ABOUT
BIOGRAPHY
Gunta Lante is a Latvian visual artist whose practice centres on large-scale figurative charcoal drawing rooted in classical drawing traditions. Her work explores the human body as both a physical and an inner space — a site where lived experience and the search for truth intersect. In her work, the human body extends beyond anatomical representation, becoming a visual testimony to a truth that belongs to the one who dares to look.
Lante continues her professional practice as an artist within the discipline of drawing while pursuing doctoral studies at the Art Academy of Latvia in Riga. Alongside her artistic and academic practice, she participates in international programmes and currently teaches figurative drawing at the Art Academy of Latvia.
She regularly participates in exhibitions in Latvia and internationally.
Her works are held in collections in the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, Latvia, and elsewhere.
In 2026 and 2025, she was a finalist in Revealing the Human, the RP Drawing Prize, at the University of Hull Art Gallery, Hull, United Kingdom.
In 2024, she received the SEB Painting Scholarship — Audience Choice Award at the Art Academy of Latvia, Riga, Latvia.
